Photographic Thesis | Craft and Discipline

At the end of 2014, I finished a series of images titled “Craft and Discipline” – studio portraits of artists and the art they create. Many of these artists work in disciplines which are not usually categorized as “art” under the public eye, however they require the same artistry to excel in their craft that a painter or sculptor does.

Working on one consistent style and theme over the course of three months was incredibly difficult – I love to explore and evolve, so sometimes I felt stuck and frustrated¬†with my topic. I was lucky to be inspired and motivated by some amazing local creatives in Edmonton, who proved to be great models as well as artists. Below are some of my favourite images from the series, with each artist’s name in the caption.

Please support local artists, they enrich our communities in immeasurable ways.
