For this special one month edition of #52portraits, we are joined by Aaron – the first man to grace the hashtag. Aaron is an actor from London (more recently, I took Aaron’s headshots – they’ll be up soon).
Despite London barely brushing the beginning of springtime, we went outside and had a colourful, almost tropical themed shoot (thanks mostly to the fun polo shirt). Playing with colour in portraits can be scary – so often I am drawn to monochromatic scenery because everything melds together so well. For this portrait, I tried using colourful background elements to give the shoot some of Aaron’s bright and energetic character.
As I continue with this project, one of my goals is to become better at representing a person’s character from choice of lighting and location all the way down to how I edit the images. I want someone who has never met the subject of the portrait to look at a photo and instantly get a feel for who they are, and what they might be like in person. So as you look at these portraits, think of three words that you think would describe Aaron. Feel free to share them with me in the comments below, hopefully I’m on the right track!
